While there is also the possibility to play the game in co-op with up to three other friends, I found deathmatch to be the most enjoyable mode. Even if most of them are much more of the same, the small variations and difficult pacing make for some great ways to improve the swinging dance.
Particle Mace comes loaded with 150 missions. I often have to use third party programs to get these controllers working in most games. I was happily surprised at how well it worked to plug in an XBOX 360, Xbox One or Playstation 3 or 4 controller and just play. Particle Mace can be played in many ways, both in terms of game modes and in what controls you can use. This added another layer to my beautiful dance once I became familiar with the controls. While attacking plays a natural part of Particle Mace, it is also vital to defend and avoid the asteroids bouncing around. I almost felt like a ballet dancer moving perfectly to the choreography while hefting my weight around. Once I did get the hang of how it worked and learned to master the swinging somewhat, it was a pure joy making perfect swings and following them up with new ideas. This turned out to be rather hard in the beginning, with most of my hits coming from pure luck or because of my frenetic swinging.
The way this works is by good old physics you need to plan your attacks and think of both the weight and your speed to hit the target in a pleasing way. But instead of using your guns, you have a boulder attached to your ship that you swing around to destroy stuff around you. Particle Mace is played mostly as a classic space arcade game, where you fly around in a little spaceship destroying asteroids and other players, depending on the game mode. Sure, you will die a lot no matter how hard you try not to, but there is something else here, something deep and addictive, that has me coming back for more, even when I´m on an endless losing streak. With the tagline “It is a game about not dying, but it is impossible not to die,” I was expecting some casual fun-for-a-while game.
Ultratron beat the game series#
After a series of rounds the player will fight one of the four bots of the apocalypse. If a pet is struck by an enemy it will require being picked up to become active again, the player must simply run over to it and it will begin to follow again.Īs the rounds go on there will be an increased variety of enemies that have an assortment of different characteristics, these range from enemies that only travel towards you, to enemies that shoot their own projectiles, to even more menacing abilities. Robot pets can also be purchased as an upgrade, these pets will provide support during the round.
Ultratron beat the game upgrade#
Once the round is over the player will be taken to an upgrade screen and the player can choose to add a variety of different upgrades that will help in the ensuing rounds.
The player will receive points for eliminating enemies, enemies also drop coins that need to be picked up, coins act as the upgrading currency.
The game takes place on single screen arenas and is broken into rounds, once a round begins enemies spawn into the arena and the player must eliminate all enemies to end the round. The last humans have been slain by a band of killer robots, the mission is to avenge the human race, and destroy the four bots of the apocalypse - Ieiunitas, Bellum, Lues and Letum! The player can upgrade their battletdroid and buy cute and deadly pets to aid them on their quest to deliver vengeance to the murderous robots. Ultratron is a dual-joystick shooter developed by Puppy Games and later ported to consoles by Curve Digital.
